Richard Bohun Baker papers, 1683-1791.

Papers consist of legal documents including indentures, leases, bonds, a writ, a renunciation of dower, and powers of attorney, estate papers and wills, land grants, plats, and other items pertaining to Richard Bohun Baker, members of the Baker and Bohun families, and others. Indentures include those between Richard Bohun Baker (1736-1783) and Amarinthea Elliott (sister of Elizabeth Elliott Baker), Elihu Baker, and others, and an indenture (1778) between Henry Middleton and the vestrymen of St. James Goose Creek Parish regarding a tract of land (includes plat). Bonds are those of Richard Bohun Baker with Mary Guerin and others. There is also a deed of gift (1761) of a slave from Elihu Baker to his daughter Sarah Baker. A land grant (1683) confers ownership of two hundred acres along the Ashley River (S.C.) to Richard Baker (d. 1698). Captain Richard Bohun Baker's land grant (1784) is for 300 acres in the Ninety-Six District (S.C.) and includes a plat. A land grant (1791) to William Bohun Baker is for 36 acres on the Ashley River in St. George Dorchester Parish (S.C.); also includes plat. Wills include those of Elihu Baker (1748), Richard Baker (1752), William Bohun (1781) of Beccles (Suffolk County, England), Richard Bohun Baker (1783), and Mary Hyrne (1791?). Estate papers consist of a few estate accounts (1784) of Henry Hyrne and Richard Bohun Baker.
